Global Warming & The Environment

Global warming is now considered by top scientists to be the greatest challenge to our survival as a civilization.  In order to arrest it, we must reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, both as a society and as individuals.  There is much we can do from supporting political candidates who stand up for the environment to driving hybrids or fuel efficient automobiles to supporting solar & wind alternatives to turning heat down , AC up and lights off.

Following are a few links to global warming sites.  At last count there were 10,040 others listed by Google.  We hope you will explore them to learn the facts and to find a wealth of information about how we can help.

In truth, we cannot depend on our government or our corporations to respond quickly and completely.  The ball is clearly in our court.  It is we, the people, who determine our future.

Links to other recommended environmental sites follow.  Happy surfing!

“An Inconvenient Truth”— Audiences everywhere respond to the movie, An Inconvenient Truth,  with spontaneous applause and standing ovations.  That’s because An Inconvenient Truth gives voice to a crisis that impacts us all: global warming. The facts are chilling and galvanizing individuals.   An-Inconvenient-Truth.com is an independent site established by fans to help promote this film in theaters and on DVD. We want everyone to see this film and help to spread its message.   Whether you see it in the theaters or not, we hope you share it with your friends, family, and community so that we can all start reducing our environmental impact.

While you wait for the DVD there are simple steps you can take to reduce your personal contribution to global warming. Our Personal Impact Audit Checklist will walk you through your home, room-by-room, and help you assess your energy efficiency.

Environmental Defense Environmental Defense, a leading national nonprofit organization, represents more than 400,000 members. Since 1967, Environmental Defense has linked science, economics, law and innovative private-sector partnerships to create breakthrough solutions to the most serious environmental problems. We have a strong history of finding solutions, from our pioneering efforts to eradicate DDT to cutting-edge hybrid truck work with FedEx . We've launched this campaign as a wake-up call. Global warming is the most serious environmental challenge of our time. It is more urgent and its dangers are more fundamental than most Americans realize. This campaign seeks to educate Americans about how quickly we must act, and give concrete steps that people can incorporate into their lives to fight global warming.

Climate change is among the most pervasive threats to the web of life, yet we have the power to address its root causes and limit its impact on the planet. Smart energy choices made by individuals and businesses can dramatically reduce CO2 emissions and slow global warming. Without action, climate change will cause the extinction of countless species and destroy some of the world's most precious ecosystems. WWF is a leader in the field of climate science and a persuasive advocate for emissions reductions and increases in the use of renewable energy resources and energy efficient technologies. Partnering with innovators in business and industry, WWF is influencing behavior and changing attitudes - and already getting results.

Greenland's Melting Ice Sheet May Speed Rise in Sea Level  — Two new scientific studies measuring Greenland's rapidly melting ice sheet and the pace of Antarctic snowfall suggest that the sea level may be rising faster than researchers previously assumed. The Greenland ice sheet, Earth's second-largest reservoir of fresh water, is melting at three times the rate at which it had been melting over the previous five years.
